How Bicycle Racks Work for the Good of Students and Customers

Bicycle racks have been around for years, but they’re just now starting to get the public and governmental support that they need. The world has become increasingly populated with numbers being attributed to an increase in childbirths, better healthcare, and extended life expectancies. These positives, however, bring with them a strain on resources and greater damaging effects to the environment. The more people behind the wheel of an automobile, the more pollution inflicted on nature. That’s why more people are taking responsibility and ditching their four wheels for two.

Making it easy for cyclists is in your best interests. After all, you may be a part of this group yourself. Whether you are a property owner, business owner, student, or customer, if you like to ride, then you need bicycle racks to encourage the activity. Commercial bicycle racks, in particular, urge riders to stop along their route, look around in a store, and maybe even purchase an item or two. It’s better on the economy and better on the environment.

But it also helps the cyclist as well. Bicycle storage grants peace of mind to any individual who feels insecure about leaving his ride unattended. The presence of a rack offers a feeling of instant bicycle security. Without them, it would be easy for this mode of transport to be stolen or vandalized while the rider is away from it. Often, the simple act of installing a rack is enough deterrent to turn thieves and vandals away to seek an easier target.

While security is the most obvious advantage to the student or customer, it is not the only one. When a bike is locked up at a cheap or outdated location, it can be subject to wear between the finish and the security loop that holds it in place. The fear of chipped or worn paint discourages many riders from saddling up their bikes.

In addition to this, racks allow riders to get to where they need to be on time while getting in their exercise along the way. As life continues to speed its pace, more cyclists are multi-tasking than ever before. Bicycle racks are your contribution, showing every rider that they don’t have to sacrifice their fitness or their world trying to keep up.

Meets APBP Guidelines: Racks fully adhere to the guidelines for bike parking as written by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals.

Bike Friendly Containment: The rack captures the bikes tires in a well or cradle in such a way so that there is no wheel bending, yet the bike is secured enough to not slide or slip from its upright position.

Simple & Intuitive: Simple and intuitive racks exhibit few options for a cyclist to lock their bike. They offer minimal parking methods (front and back only) and minimize the possibility of securing a bike in an incorrect way that will cause unorganized or non-secure bike parking.

Security: The rack should be equipped with a feature (such as an arm or wing) to allow the bicycle to be locked to the rack with an external lock and a closed part of the bicycle frame, as well as offer the ability to lock the wheel, frame, and rack in unison.

Density: How well the rack contains and organizes large numbers of bikes in different configurations and locations while still keeping parking organized to allow cyclists sufficient access to their bikes.

Cost Per Bike: The approximate dollar amount an individual rack will cost in respect to how many bikes it will hold.

Cost Per Bike+Shipping: The approximate dollar amount an individual rack will cost in respect to how many bikes it will hold plus the cost of freight. Because different racks weigh more or less, and ship to and from different locations, the cost of freight varies and therefore can make a total purchase price more or less expensive than just averaging the cost per bike.
